With a staff of 35 full-time, part-time, and volunteer firefighters, the Hazlehurst-Jeff Davis Fire and Rescue Department, under the direction of Chief Charles Wasdin. is a combined effort of both the City of Hazlehurst and Jeff Davis County.

Both stations located in the City of Hazlehurst, one located at 31 Pat Dixon Road and the other at 99 East Jarman Street, offer fire protection within a five-mile radius of the city, with several volunteer-staffed fire stations safeguarding the remainder of the county.
