The airport first opened in 1963. In the past few years, a thoroughly modern new terminal was added to the airport, as well as runway extensions and complete fencing to prevent aircraft-deer accidents. A weather computer, Internet access, and clean restrooms are available inside the terminal.
The Airport Authority members are Dr. David Turfler, Zachary Marchant, Travis Woodcock, Sharon Rothwell, Jay Wooley, Wyatt Spann, City Clerk Vernice Thompson, and Mayor R. Bayne Stone.
